Little Buc cagers end season with road games at Webster and Mountaineer

WEBSTER SPRINGS – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Bucs ended their season on a down note as they dropped a pair of road contests to Webster County and Mountaineer (Morgantown) Middle.

They lost a 45-40 decision to Webster County and a 52-28 decision to Mountaineer.

Against Webster County, they fell behind by a 14-5 score after one quarter and were forced to play catch-up the rest of the game.

They didn’t help themselves at the free-throw line as they missed 10, going four-for-14 at the line.

Ian Strader had all five points for the Little Bucs in the first quarter.

Strader had six points in the second quarter while Landon Marple fired in a three-pointer and Luke Yardley added a basket as the Little Bucs won the quarter by a 10-8 margin.

They still trailed at the half by a 22-15 score.

The Little Bucs were edged in the third quarter by a 13-12 score with Malaki Williams scoring four points, Strader and Nathanial Ringer three each and Elijah Mahaffey two.

That left them down by a 35-27 score going into the final quarter.

The Little Bucs won the last quarter by a 13-10 score but couldn’t overtake Webster County enough to pull out the win.

Ringer had four points in the final quarter with Marple adding three and Strader, Williams and Jaden Westfall two each.

Strader paced the Little Bucs with 15 points.

In their battle with Mountaineer, they dropped the first quarter by a 13-7 count with Strader getting five points and Mahaffey two.

The rebounded to win the second quarter by an 8-7 margin with Ringer scoring four points and Bryson Johnston and Yardley two each.

That left them down by a 20-15 score at the break.

The game got away from the Little Bucs in the third quarter as they were doubled up by a 16-8 score.

Marple and Johnston both had three pointers in the quarter and Yardley added a basket as they trailed by a 36-23 margin.

The Little Bucs lost the final quarter by a 16-5 count as Jaden Westfall put in three points and Williams two.

Strader and Johnston each had five points for the Little Bucs to lead the offense.

The Little Bucs ended their season with a 6-11 record.
