Leonard Carl Stalnaker

JANE LEW — Leonard Carl Stalnaker, 64, of Woodside Dr. Walkersville passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg following complications from pulmonary fibrosis and pneumonia.
He was born in Upshur County on May 11, 1952 a son of the late Harold Newton Stalnaker and Virgie Mae Zickefoose Stalnaker
His caring, quick-witted nature will be carried on by his son, Willie Stalnaker and wife, Jessie of Ireland; two stepchildren: Will Brady of Weston and Rose Brady of Linn; eight grandchildren: Seth, Kaylee, Emily and Brody Stalnaker, Harley Crouse, Hannah and Waylon Jenkins, Sophie Niewierowski and Byron Brady; and his best friends, loyal companions, and beloved dogs: Eddie, Molly, and Maybelle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Kenny, Jim and Gary Stalnaker.
Leonard was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War. He retired as a music therapist and recreation specialist from Wm. R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital in Weston with several years of service. Leonard was a self taught, talented musician who could play guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and bass with great proficiency.
He loved playing bluegrass and he performed in the Hard Times Traveling Band, Cadillac Grass, and Stalnaker Brothers for many years.
In his free time, he also enjoyed hanging out with his dogs, relaxing and doing a little fishing on a sunny afternoon.
Friends and family will gather at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 1-3 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 6, 2017.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Streets officiating.
Interment will follow in the Peterson Cemetery in Weston. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Army, the Lewis County Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard.
