ROCK CAVE — Navigating the Veterans Administration network can be a challenge but an upcoming informational program seeks to make it more manageable.
The Disabled American Veterans at French Creek and Veterans Benefits Administration, Huntington Regional Office are sponsoring the informational program on Thursday, June 1 from noon until 2 p.m. at the DAV Building, 2191 Alexander-Helvetia Road.
A representative from the Veterans Benefits Administration will cover three main topics, according to DAV adjutant Ron Fowler.
“These are three benefits that we are finding out are under used,” he said. “We think if we can get this information out there that this will be of value to folks in this area.”
The Dependency and Indemnity Compensation Benefits program provides the surviving spouse of certain veterans a monthly income, information on eligibility requirements and what steps veterans and his or her spouse can take to insure the benefit will be there when needed.
Surviving spouses who are eligible for the DIC benefits may also be eligible for Aid and Attendance and Household Benefits for assistance with daily activities.
Lastly, the representative will cover dependents and survivors and health care through the Civilian Health and Medical Program. There is a health insurance program for certain dependents and survivors of veterans, Fowler said. Seating is limited, so contact Fowler at 304-924-5584 to reserve a seat.
