Larry Phillip Loudin, age 78, passed away in his sleep on April 27, 2020, after several years of battling Parkinson’s disease and congestive heart failure.
Father, teacher, coach, and farmer, Larry loved people – especially if they were willing to listen to his stories. A sixth generation West Virginian, he grew up on and farmed the land his ancestors settled in French Creek. A math teacher at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle and High Schools in WV, as well as Socastee Middle, Forestbrook Middle, and the Horry County Education Center in SC, he touched the lives of countless young people.
Over his teaching career in Buckhannon, Huntington, WV, and Conway, SC, he coached cross country, golf, basketball and wrestling. Larry enjoyed yard sales, auctions, buying and selling antiques, listening to his vast record collection, hunting, and collecting guns. But most of all he enjoyed a good laugh with friends and family.
Larry was the proud father of three children: David Loudin (Jessica) of Conway, SC; Sarah Thomas (Jim) of Asheville, NC; and Daniel Loudin (Janet) of French Creek. He was also Pawpaw Larry to Hannah, Jessie, Joshua, Chelsea, Katie and Olivia.
Per his wishes, Larry is being cremated and his ashes spread on the family farm in French Creek.
