MOUNT CLARE – Isaac Lane finished in fourth place in the Big 10 Conference championship for the Buckhannon-Upshur golf Buccaneers this past Monday at the Bel Meadow Golf Course.

Lane shot an 83 which earned him First-Team All-Conference honors.

He was followed in the standings by teammate Evan Coffman who placed fifth with a score of 91 which earned him First-Team All-Conference honors as well.

As a team, the Bucs finished third overall with a 269, just four strokes off the lead.

North Marion won the team title with a score of 265 while Robert C. Byrd was second with a score of 267.

Bridgeport and Grafton finished in a tie for fourth place in the 13-team event with both teams carding 288s.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Landon Hitt finished just outside the top 10 placing 12th overall with a 95 with Tucker Hurst not far behind with a 98.

Both Hitt and Hurst earned Second-Team All-Conference honors for the Bucs.

“The course played hard today and it was a great test,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall. “I think we didn’t play our very best but I am proud how we represented Buckhannon-Upshur. We played with grit and class to finish just four strokes off the lead. I think we turned a few heads in doing so.”

North Marion’s Michael Harris won low medalist honors with a two-over-par round of 74 earning the title of Big 10 Player of the Year.

Chris Miller of Grafton was runner-up with a 79 while Andrew Bowie of Robert C. Byrd finished in front of Lane for third place with an 80.

“Lane made a run at it on the back nine,” stated Westfall. “He is so calm and methodical  about his game, that any situation seems not to phase him. Coffman had a tough day despite finishing fifth. I think he hit every bunker on the course. He just couldn’t keep it where he normally does. He was a little disappointed but I am proud of how he competed. Hitt was very consistent and he played his game while Hurst didn’t have a good front nine but battled in his back nine. This team has grown so much in their games that I believe they are poised to do great things at regionals.”

The Bucs will return to action this Monday as they compete in the Region I championship held at the Williams Country Club in Weirton.
