Lady ‘Cats run sixth at MEC cross-country championship

WHEELING – The West Virginia Wesleyan women’s cross-country team placed sixth out of seven teams in the MEC Championship held Saturday at Oglebay Park.

Wesleyan amassed 119 points.

The University of Charleston won the team title with 42 points while Davis & Elkins was a close second with 47 points. Concord was third with 87, West Liberty was fourth with 104 and Fairmont State rounded out the top five with 177 points.

Hannah Kemp from West Liberty won the individual title with a time of 23:33.86 while Kasey McNamara of Charleston was runner-up with a time of 24:25.21.

Mercy Jepleting of Charleston was third with a clocking of 24:29.74, Emily Wallace of Concord was fourth with a time of 24:41.64 and Lily Dowdell of Charleston was fifth with a time of 24:45.20.

Wesleyan’s top two runners were Tori Carr and Lauren Chickosky.

Carr placed 12th with a time of 25:35.90 while Chickosky was 15th with a time of 26:17.98.

Their finishes earned both runners Second Team All-Conference honors.

The other three Lady Bobcats scoring were Madison Frame in 28th (28:39.49), Emilee Spangler in 34th (28:53.49) and Sonya Krezmien in 36th (28:53.49).

Rounding out the Wesleyan line-up were Alexis Imperial in 38th (29:32.27) and Alexa Gorondy in 44th (30:58.83).

Kemp was named the MEC Runner of the Year while Jepleting was the MEC Freshman of the Year.

Charleston’s Nick Bias was named the MEC Women’s Coach of the Year.
