Lady ‘Cats forced to settle with 2-2 tie in fall debut with Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK (Pa.) – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat soccer team had to settle for a 2-2 tie in their season opener Thursday with Slippery Rock after holding a 2-0 first-half lead.

Natalie Pireu scored an unassisted goal for Wesleyan on a free kick in the 26th minute and Hailey Dillow sent a pass to Savannah Masteron for a score in the 39th minute to set Wesleyan up with their 2-0 lead.

Slippery Rock’s Jordyn Minda cut the lead in half for the Rockets in the 51st minute with a goal and then Rachel Edge tied the game up in the 88th minute with a goal.

Neither team could find the back of the net in a pair of overtime sessions.

Wesleyan trailed in shots-on-goal by an 11-6 margin and trailed in corner kicks by a 12-2 count.

The Lady ‘Cats were guilty of nine fouls while Slippery Rock was called for five.

Ally Moore made nine stops for Wesleyan while Emma Yoder had two saves for Slippery Rock.

The Lady ‘Cats will play again Sunday at Indiana (Pa.) in a non-conference game at 2 p.m.
