Lady Pioneers overcome halftime deficit to improve to 27-1

BUCKHANNON —West Virginia Wesleyan gave No. 7 Glenville State a battle in the first half before eventually dropping a 91-65 decision Saturday at the Rockefeller Center.

The Lady Bobcats, who ended the season 8-20 overall and 6-16 in MEC games, jumped out to a 16-12 lead after the first quarter and carried a 34-30 advantage into the intermission.

But the Lady Pioneers took control in the third quarter, outscoring Wesleyan 33-11 to lead by 18, at 63-45, entering the final quarter.

Glenville State, which had 19 3-pointers on the day, claimed its second straight MEC regular-season title and ended the season with an unblemished 22-0 record in conference play. The Lady Pioneers are 27-1 overall.

Stacy Remer, one of four seniors honored on the day, paced the Lady Bobcats with 15 points and five rebounds. Fellow senior Mari Stewart added 12 points and nine boards, followed by Brittany Stawovy with 10 points and six rebounds.

Lana Long and Tara Goldman were the other Wesleyan seniors recognized.

Five Lady Pioneer players scored double-digit points led by Julie Bishop with 17. 

Paris McLeod tacked on 14 points with eight rebounds, while Bhrea Griffin and Odyssey Trussell each scored 12 points. 

Asiya Smith rounded out the list of double-digit performers with 11 in the victory.
