BRIDGEPORT — The University of Charleston has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the Mountain East Conference women's golf championship.
The Golden Eagles collected 80 points (eight first-place votes).
UC has its entire starting lineup back from last season that won its second MEC title in the last three years, including All-MEC first team honorees Sarah Feizal, Elizabeth Karsten and Alyssa Wrozier.
The University of Charleston also became the first team to represent the Mountain East Conference in the NCAA East Regional Tournament with Feizal and Wrozier posting Top 50 finishes at the tournament.
Notre Dame was second in the poll with 74 points and had two first-place votes.
The Falcons will be led by last year's Player of the Year Macie Hysell and Freshman of the Year Amani Shepherd, along with the 2018 Freshman of the Year Alexandra Cardi.
Wheeling was picked third in the poll with 60 points, followed closely by West Virginia Wesleyan (55) and Fairmont State (54).
Concord and Davis & Elkins finished in a tie for sixth with 36 points, with Urbana (27), West Liberty (18) and Glenville State (10) rounding out the poll.
The Pioneers are reinstating the women's golf program after not competing in the sport the last three years.
