TENNERTON – Catherine Oliveto tallied four second-half goals to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc soccer team to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Lewis County Minutemaids here Tuesday night at Ted Crites Alumni Field at Tom Hasbrouck Stadium.
With the game scoreless at the half, Oliveto started her offensive attack in the 51st minute with her first goal.
She played a ball from Brooklyn Maxwell and took a shot from 15 yards out to the lower left side of the net for the goal.
Four minutes later, she scored on a breakaway and placed a shot under Lewis County keeper Payton Campbell to give the Lady Bucs a 2-0 lead.
Maggie Nolte was credited with the assist.
Oliveto struck again in the 69th minute as she stole a ball from a Lewis County defender and placed a shot to the left corner of the net to increase the Lady Buc lead to 3-0.
She wrapped up the scoring in the 73rd minute scoring on another breakaway goal with the assist going to Miranda Greene.
“We played well and controlled most of the game,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jackie Zuliani. “They had a weaker defense than most teams we have played lately and I can’t believe it took us until the second half to score multiple goals. We wore them down and were able to work the ball up and Oliveto was able to finish multiple times.
“We were without Madison Ware due to a concussion and we had a couple of other players dealing with injuries so we were pleased with everyone’s effort.”
Oliveto’s four goals helped send six Lady Buc seniors out as winners on Senior Night.
Prior to the game, the Lady Bucs honored seniors Leigh Ann Bennett, Petyon Carlyle, Audrey Gaudet, Lauren Gompers, Chelsea Humphrey and Madison Ware.
“The senior class is going to be hard to replace,” Zuliani stated. “Four of them are four-year starters. They seem like they have been part of the team longer because they have been such big contributors to the team. They will all be missed.”
The Lady Bucs owned a 6-2 lead in shots-on-goal while Lewis County had a 5-4 lead in corner kicks.
Buckhannon-Upshur keeper Claire Coffman made two saves in net while Campbell made two for Lewis County.
The win improved the Lady Bucs to 12-4-1 on the season.
They were slated to visit Elkins Thursday.
They will close out their regular season Saturday in a make-up road contest with Philip Barbour. That contest will start at 9:30 a.m.
