TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers walloped the host George Washington Patriots lacrosse team by a final score of 18-4 in Thursday’s league match.
The Lady Bucs highly decorated senior star Miranda Greene lived up to her billing as the state’s top player, toying with the competition as she scored four goals and showed off her deft playmaking touch by dishing out two assists to account for a team-high 6 points on the evening.
Senior Hannah Walton scored a team-leading five goals to pace the team in scoring, while senior Reese Hutson scored a goal and dished out a team-high three assists. Sophomore Kennedy Defibaugh scored three goals, junior Paula Vaugh scored two goals, senior Kaylee O’Conner scored a goal, senior Kierra Arbogaast scored a goal, while also collecting three ground balls. Sophomore Heather Hayes scored a goal to round out the scoring numbers for the Lady Bucs. As a team, the Lady Bucs scored 18 goals on 24 shots on goal, recording a lethally efficient 75% shooting percentage.
Gaidian Adams led the way for the Lady Bucs in terms of fielding, with the disruptive senior defender hustled her way to collect a team-high six ground balls and causing a team-high two Patriot turnovers. Coach Greene’s team was also aided by notably strong defensive performances from sophomore defender Kaylee Black fielded five ground balls and senior Mashae Bowser who fielded three ground balls.
Sophomore goaltender Hannah Crihfield played a full 50 minutes in defense of the net for the Lady Bucs. Crihfield collected the win after recording 14 saves and only allowing four goals on 18 shots on goal.
With the win, Coach Greene’s the Lady Bucs its record to 14-1 on the season. Coming off another landslide victory the Lady Buccaneers turned their attention to their next game as they played host University to play the University Hawks in a non-league match this past Monday, May 2 at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Field. Once again, the overwhelmingly talented Lady Bucs lacrosse team routed the visiting Hawks, 16-5.
The Lady Bucs cruised to the dominant victory as their star senior midfielder once again stole the show. Greene was a statistical marvel, doing it all to help deliver her team their fourth straight win. The versatile senior scored a team-high seven goals, while also collecting six ground balls to lead the team in that category as well.
Walton scored five goals, while dishing out an assist. The senior recorded her second straight five goal game, making a strong case for athlete of the week honors this week.
Defibaugh made a crucial impact on both offense and defense for coach Greene’s Lady Bucs scoring two goals and fielding three ground balls. Adams scored a goal, all the while living up to her high standard of play on the defensive end by fielding five ground balls and causing a team-high two turnovers. Hudson scored a goal to round out the scoring numbers for the Lady Bucs in their win over University.
The win moves the Lady Bucs to 15-1 on the year as the near postseason play. Collectively, the Lady Bucs have proven to have the grit, determination, will, and heart that it takes to bring a championship to Tennerton. Only time will tell if the Lady Bucs can live up to their limitless promise in the postseason.
