ELKINS – Shelby McDaniels scored a game-high 25 points to help lead the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs to a 54-36 win over the Elkins Tigers last Thursday in Elkins.
It was a slow grind for the Lady Bucs but they were eventually able to pull away from the Tigers for the 18-point win.
The Lady Bucs built an eight-point lead at the half, but Elkins began the third quarter on an 8-3 run trimming the B-U lead down to three, at 29-26.
Gabby Parke came right back for the Lady Bucs with a three-pointer to put the lead back to six.
Elkins answered with a basket to make it a 32-28 game, but Buckhannon-Upshur ended the canto on a 9-0 run to pull away for the Tigers with a 41-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Bucs biggest lead of the fourth quarter was 21 points before settling on the 18-point win.
Parke added 13 points for the Lady Bucs while McKenzie Reynolds tacked on nine.
Allan Belan led the Tigers with 10 points.
Elkins fell to 1-11.
The contest was the regular-season finale for the Lady Bucs as they finished with an 8-5 mark.
They will enter the Region I, Section 2 tournament as the second seed and will host third-seed Preston Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the high school.
Top seed University will host Bridgeport in the other sectional semifinal.
