MORGANTOWN – Buckhannon-Upshur’s Cadence Vincent felt right home at the new Mylan Park Aquatic Center in MoHawk Invitational this past Saturday.

The Center, the new home of the state championships, was to the liking of the freshman swimmer as she broke a school record, claimed a first and second individual and was part of a winning relay foursome.

Vincent broke a school record by winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.43.

She broke a seven-year-old school record held by Maggie Miller.

She also took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.16.

She was first leg of the 400-yard freestyle foursome along with McKenzie Reynolds, Alayna Whitehair and Cameron Zuliani that took first place with a time of 3:58.15.

That foursome also took fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.07.

Zuliani had a second and third-place finish individually for the Lady Bucs.

She took runner-up honors the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.52 and third in the 50-yard freestyle with a clocking of 26.08.

Alayna Whitehair placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.54 and fifth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:25.13.

Merrody Malone took eighth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:15.84.

Reynolds had the other two top 10 finishes taking ninth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:04.30 and 10th in the 50-yard freestyle with a clocking of 28.74.

As a team, the Lady Bucs finished fourth collecting 212 points.

Wheeling Park took first with 319 points while Bridgeport was second with 307 and Morgantown was third with 221.

“We had a great day at the new Mylan Park pool,” commented Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Will Squires. “I was very excited to be able to swim in the facility before the state meet later this season. We had some great individual and relay swims. Cadence had an awesome meet. The quality of the competition made this one of the most competitive meets we will have all year, even including the state meet. I was particularly proud of how well the team competed, placing fourth among some of the best teams in the state. We even beat Parkersburg who probably had twice as many girls as we did, and we were only nine points behind Morgantown.”

The Lady Bucs will compete again today when they host a tri-meet with Robert C. Byrd and Grafton at the West Virginia Wesleyan College pool.
