Lady Bucs pick up two more lacrosse victories

Summer Agaiar of the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc lacrosse team battled Wheeling Park and John Marshall last weekend at Wheeling Island Stadium. The Lady Bucs defeated John Marshall 13-1 and Wheeling Park, 22-1.

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc lacrosse team had a field day in the northern panhandle last weekend with a pair of dominating road wins over John Marshall and Wheeling Park.

The Lady Bucs beat John Marshall 13-1 and followed that up with a 22-1 win over Wheeling Park.

They followed up those strong showings with a narrow overtime loss to Morgantown by a 9-8 score on Monday.

The action left head coach Jamie Greene’s squad with a 3-2 record. Both loses have occurred in overtime sessions.

Against John Marshall, the Lady Bucs led at the break by a 7-0 score and cruised to a 13-1 victory.

Makenzie Lewellyn and Haylee Rice led the offense with three goals apiece while Emileigh Ryan and Summer Agaiar each had two goals apiece.

B-U keeper Amber Powers only had to make one save in net during the win.

“Our defense played very well,” remarked Greene. “Jayme Lantz, Kennedi Lewellyn, Mya Tenney and Xyndra Pugh really shut down the John Marshall offense.”

The Lady Bucs had no issues with Wheeling Park as they stormed out to a 12-1 lead at the break en route to their 22-1 win.

Ryan led the offense with five goals while Agaiar, Miranda Greene and Makenzie Lewellyn each had three.

“Our defense was faster and kept Wheeling Park’s offense in shutdown mode the entire game,” said Greene.

Against Morgantown, B-U trailed 3-2 but came back to deadlock the game at the end of regulation at 8-8. Morgantown scored the game winner in the overtime session.

Greene scored four goals while Rice had three and Ryan one.

Powers made four saves for the Lady Bucs.

“We have to come out and play all 50 minutes,” remarked Greene after the loss.

Buckhannon-Upshur was scheduled to play George Washington Thursday and Spring Mills on Saturday.

They will return to action Wednesday when they host St. Albans at 6 p.m. and then will make a return trip to Wheeling Park on  Friday at 7 p.m.
