Lady Bucs open lacrosse season with a 1-1 mark

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc lacrosse team is 1-1 on the season after splitting their first two games of the young season.

They opened the season last Monday at home with University and lost a heart-breaking 5-4 decision in double overtime.

University led it 2-1 at the half but the Lady Bucs came back to tie it at the end of regulation.

Neither team could find the net in the first overtime period.

Miranda Greene led the Lady Bucs with two goals while Emileigh Ryan and Kennedi Lewellyn each had one.

Buckhannon-Upshur keeper Amber Powers made two saves.

They rebounded on Wednesday at home to down Harrison County by a 16-5 score.

They stormed out to a 10-1 lead at the half and cruised from that point on.

Haylee Rice led the team in scoring with four while Greene and Makenzi Lewellyn each had three and Tiffany Williams had two.

Powers and Leah Crichfield shared time in the net with Powers making three saves and Crichfield two.

The split left the Lady Bucs of head coach Jamie Greene with a 1-1 record.

They were slated to play John Marshall and Wheeling Park on Saturday and Morgantown on Monday.

They will return to action Thursday hosting George Washington at 6 p.m.
