FAIRMONT – Frankfort’s Abby Beeman scored 17 points against the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs in their season opener Saturday evening at Fairmont Senior High School.

But it was the last three points she scored that broke the hearts of the Lady Bucs.

Buckhannon-Upshur led the Falcons in the waning moments of the game by a 49-48 score, but Beeman uncorked a 3-pointer from four-feet behind the arc at the buzzer that found the bottom of the net to spoil the 2018-19 debut of the Lady Bucs as they dropped a 51-49 decision.

The Lady Bucs raced out to a 21-13 lead after one quarter of play behind the offense of Alli Robinson and Audrey Gaudet.

Robinson flipped in 10 points in the opening quarter and Gaudet poured in nine while Shelby McDaniels added two.

The Buckhannon-Upshur offense though went cold in the second quarter as they didn’t make a field goal during that time.

The Lady Bucs scored just four points, all from the free-throw line, as Frankfort took a 26-25 lead at the break.

With a balanced attack in the third quarter with Robinson scoring five points, McKenzie Kittle nailing a trey, Gaudet and McDaniels popping in a jumper and Brooklyn Maxwell hitting two free throws, the Lady Bucs tied the game after three-quarters of action at 40-40.

McDaniels made two baskets in the fourth quarter as Maxwell added a basket while Robinson knocked down two free throws and Gaudet one for a nine-point fourth quarter.

Robinson led the Lady Bucs with 19 points while Gaduet tallied 12 and McDaniels eight.

Gaudet pulled down a team-best eight rebounds while Robinson grabbed six.

The Lady Bucs shot 32.6 percent from the floor connecting on 15 of their 46 field goals.

Buckhannon-Upshur will return to action today when they host Preston at 7:30 p.m.

The junior varsity Lady Bucs will open their season against Preston at 5:45 p.m.
