Lady Bucs cruise by Winfield at Little General Shootout


INSTITUTE — The top-ranked Buckhannon-Upshur girls basketball team ventured south to captured their 16th straight victory on Tuesday morning.

The Lady Bucs (20-1) of head coach Jeremy Maxwell used 26 points from Hanna McClung and 13 from fellow senior Lauren Bennett to cruise past Winfield, 60-42, at the Little General Shootout at the Big House held at West Virginia State College.

B-U took control in the first quarter, outscoring the Generals 18-9 and building a 16-point cushion, at 37-21, at the intermission.

The lead grew to 51-32 after three quarters.

Z.Z. Russell scored 18 points and Lauren Hudson 10 for Winfield (12-7).

Bennett added nine rebounds and five steals to her point total, while McClung tallied six caroms, three assists and four steals to go along with her game-high 26, Alli Robinson netted eight points and Audrey Gaudet seven rebounds.

B-U will be idle until closing the regular season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Elkins.

The contest has been designated as Stockert Youth Center-Let’s Build It and Youth Basketball Night.
