Lady Bucs can’t slow down the three-point shot of No. 4 Morgantown in loss

MORGANTOWN – The No. 12 Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs ran into a team that seemingly couldn’t miss a three-point shot when they took on the No. 4 Morgantown Mohigans Monday night in a non-conference road contest.

Morgantown hit nine three-pointers in the first half and had as many three-point field goals in the game (11) as they did two-point field goals (11) in a 64-46 win.

The first four baskets of the game by Morgantown were three-pointers as they raced out to a 12-4 lead.

Down 20-6, Kenna Maxwell unleashed a three-pointer and followed that up with a lay-up to bring the Lady Bucs to within nine, at 20-11.

Following another trey by Morgantown, McKenzie Reynolds hit a baseline jumper to end the first quarter, making it a 23-13 contest.

Morgantown started the second quarter with a basket, but Kennedy Samargo made two free throws and Maxwell added one foul shot to trim the Lady Buc deficit to nine, at 25-16.

Morgantown went on a 12-2 run to open up a 37-18 lead with 2:28 left in the first half.

The Lady Bucs went into the break down by 19, at 43-24.

Morgantown began the third quarter on a 11-2 run for a 54-26 advantage.

Buckhannon-Upshur trailed going into the fourth quarter by a 60-33 score.

The Lady Bucs started the final quarter on a 7-0 run behind a jumper from Kiara Woods, a three-pointer from Maxwell and a lay-up by McDaniels to make it a 60-40 contest.

After a Morgantown basket, Gabby Parke and Woods made consecutive hoops to close the deficit to 18, at 62-44, with 3:49 left in the game.

Revaya Sweeney and Parke traded baskets to wrap up the scoring.

The Lady Bucs held Morgantown to just four points in the fourth quarter.

Kendal Currence led the Lady Bucs with 12 points while Maxwell added 11.

Berit Johnson paced Morgantown with 15 points.

The loss was the fourth in a row for the Lady Bucs as they dropped to 4-4 overall.

They were slated to play Philip Barbour last night and will return to action Friday at Bridgeport.The game will tip at 7:30 p.m.

They will visit Liberty on Saturday for a varsity only contest at 7 p.m.
