Lady Bucs beat John Marshall on Senior Day, 58-54

Lady Bucs Seniors! — These five Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc seniors won their “Senior Day” game against John Marshall Saturday at the high school. The seniors are, Alli Robinson, McKenzie Kittle, Sydney Fletcher, Leigh Ann Bennett and Audrey Gaudet. The Lady Bucs beat John Marshall, 58-54.

TENNERTON – Audrey Gaudet made the most of her “Senior Day” experience for the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs when they squared off against the John Marshall Monarchs Saturday afternoon in a non-conference affair.

Gaudet shredded the Monarchs defense for 22 points going an impressive nine-for 13 from the floor as the Lady Bucs held off John Marshall for a 58-54 victory.

“Audrey had a huge game,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Rob Kittle.

The Lady Bucs needed every point as John Marshall was single-handedly carried by Shay Straughn who fired in 28.

“I have been really proud of the girls,” remarked Kittle. “Ever since Alli Robinson was injured a few weeks ago, so many people have stepped up in her absence.”

The Lady Bucs got balanced scoring in the first quarter as Shelby McDaniels fired in a trey, Brooklyn Maxwell chipped in three points, while Sydney Fletcher, Leigh Ann Bennett and Gaudet each added a basket.

John Marshall had a 13-12 edge going into the second quarter.

The Lady Bucs offense started to click with a 19-point second quarter.

McKenzie Kittle scored all 10 of her points in the quarter while Gaudet poured in six and Bennett added 3-pointer.

The Bucs held a 31-24 lead at the break.

Gaudet poured in eight points while Bennett hit a trey and Maxwell and McDaniels each scored two in the third quarter that went to John Marshall by a 17-15 score.

The Lady Bucs still lead going into the final quarter by a 46-41 score.

The Lady Bucs were their own worst enemy in the final quarter shooting just four of nine at the free-throw stripe letting the Monarchs hang around, but Gaudet scored six points including two key free throws and Bennett, Maxwell and McDaniels each contributed with a basket in the fourth as the Lady Bucs held on for a four-point win.

John Marshall dropped to 13-6 on the season.

The Lady Bucs won their second game in a row and improved to 11-6 overall.

Following Gaudet in the scoring column for Buckhannon-Upshur was Kittle and Bennett with 10 points each.

“McKenzie and Leigh Ann shot the ball well and we made plays when we had to down the stretch,” summarized Kittle.

Prior to the game, Buckhannon-Upshur recognized their five seniors – Robinson, Kittle, Bennett, Gaudet and Sydney Fletcher.

Buckhannon-Upshur will return to action Tuesday when they play in the Little General Tournament against George Washington.

The game will tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
