Lady Buc netters drop 6-1 decision to Elkins

ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Elkins Tigers Monday evening at Davis & Elkins College.

Madelyn Frye earned the lone win for the Lady Bucs at No. 3 singles.

She defeated Sophia Gillespie by an 8-6 score.

“Madelyn has been playing so hard and fighting for every point, I knew it was only a matter of time before she got a win,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock.

The Lady Bucs came up just short in a pair of double matches.

Frye and Malia Bowers lost an 8-6 decision to Natalie Sutton and Miriam Faith at No. 2 and Lainey Rowan and Tori Adams fell by a 9-7 score to Macy Romero and Brooke Louk at No. 3.

“The underclassmen girls have gotten so much better in the last few weeks and it’s exciting to see their hard work start to pay off in matches,” stated Rock.

The Lady Bucs are now 0-13 on the season.

They were scheduled to play in the Big 10 Conference Tournament on Thursday and Friday.

They will host University on Monday and then Wheeling Park on Tuesday.
