TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc and Little Lady Buc lacrosse teams will see their first live action of the year this Saturday and Sunday as part of the 2020 Polar Meltdown at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The Lady Bucs will compete on Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m. while the Little Lady Bucs will play on Sunday.
Both Polar Meltdowns are free to the public.
The high school team will start their 2020 regular-season campaign on the road against the John Marshall Monarchs Wednesday, March 18 at 6 p.m. in a divisional match-up on the new turf at Monarch Stadium in Moundsville.
Buckhannon-Upshur will return their leading scorer from last year, sophomore Miranda Green who was named as a First Team All-State teamer a season ago.
Greene not only led the Lady Bucs in scoring but had the most goals in the state as well.
Senior Haylee Rice, a Second-Team All-Stater in 2019, and senior Makenzi Lewellyn look to contribute leadership on the Buckhannon-Upshur offense as well.
Others to see action on offense are returners Emileigh Ryan (Honorable Mention All-State), Hannah Walton and Kierra Arbogast.
A First Team All-Stater on defense in 2018 and 2019, senior Kennedi Lewellyn will lead the defense at wing fefender along with sophomore Mashae Bowser, senior Xyndra Pugh, and sophomores Gaidian Adams and Kiara Woods as the crease defenders.
Lewellyn led the state with the most ground balls last year.
Veteran defender senior Amber Powers and Leah Crihfield will be the goalies this year.
The Lady Bucs will look to nine incoming freshmen to contribute on the field as well.
Third year head coach Jamie Greene will try to return the Lady Bucs to the WVSLA West Division playoffs as they lost in the first round of the playoffs last year to the Morgantown Mohigans by a 10-5 score.
