TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School girls lacrosse team will start their regular season campaign against Harrison County this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m .at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.
The Lady Bucs were predicted to make a run at the championship in 2020 but the season was canceled due to COVID-19.
Buckhannon-Upshur will try to replace two-time All-State defender Kennedi Lewellyn and her twin sister Makenzi Lewellyn who now plays at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The Lady Bucs will return their leading scorer from 2019, junior First Team All-State attacker Miranda Greene.
Greene scored the most goals in the state in the 2019 season.
Senior Emileigh Ryan, Honorable Mention All-State in 2019, Hannah Walton and Kierra Arbogast look to contribute leadership on the B-U offense as well.
Others to see action on offense are returning junior Kaylee O’Connor, freshman Kendall Defibaugh and sophomore Paula Vaughn.
Juniors Mashae Bowser and Gaidian Adams will lead the defense at wing defenders along with junior Destiny Chidester and junior Kiara Woods as the crease defenders.
Veteran defender Leah Crihfield will be the goalie this year. The Lady Bucs will look to four incoming freshmen to contribute on the field as well.
Fourth-year head coach Jamie Greene will try to return the Lady Bucs to the WVSLA West Division playoffs as they lost in the first round of the playoffs in 2019 to the Morgantown Mohigans by a 10-5 score.
