Lady Buc lacrosse team prepares for season opener

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc lacrosse team put the final touches on their preseason schedule this past weekend in the Polar Bear Meltdown hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jamie Greene split his 35-woman roster evenly into two teams for a trio of scrimmages.

The Buckhannon-Upshur Blue team went 1-1-1.

They defeated St. Albans by a 7-2 score, tied Latrobe (Pa.), 5-5 and lost to Fairmont, 7-2.

Against St. Albans, Miranda Greene had four goals while Emma Reger collected two and Haylee Rice one.

In the tie with Latrobe, Makenzi Llewellyn scored two goals while Summer Agaiar, Rice and Greene each had a score.

Lewellyn and Maddy Shores had the two goals against Fairmont.

The White team went a perfect 3-0 beating St. Albans (7-1), Capital (6-2) and Harrison (5-1).

Rice led the scoring for White against St. Albans with three goals while Emileigh Ryan and Shores had two each.

In the Capital win, Hannah Walton scored three times while Morgan Wilson, Kennedi Lewellyn and Greene each had one.

Against Harrison, Walton scored twice while Williams, Wilson and Greene each had one.

“I thought both teams played really well and we saw some good things from both squads,” remarked Greene. “We have 17 freshmen on the squad and a lot of them stepped up.”

The Lady Bucs will open their season Monday against University.

The game will now be played at Freal “Red” Crites Stadium as it was originally scheduled for University High.
