Lady Bobcats will battle Notre Dame in MEC tourney opener on Friday

BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan’s top-seeded Lady Bobcats, the Southern Division champions, will open the 2018 Mountain East Conference Softball Tournament at noon Friday, facing Notre Dame’s Lady Falcons, the Northern Division’s fourth-place team, at the James I Moyer Complex in Salem (Va.).

The Lady ‘Cats, ranked 22nd in the country, own an overall record of 39-10 and are 28-4 in the MEC, while Notre Dame is 14-17 in the MEC.

The top four squads from each of the Southern and Northern divisions make up the tournament.

Joining Wesleyan in the Southern Division are West Virginia State (18-14), Virginia-Wise (16-16) and Concord (14-18).

Shepherd (22-10) is the Northern Division champion, followed by Wheeling Jesuit (20-11), Fairmont State (18-14) and Notre Dame (14-17).
