Lady Bobcats have strong start to spring golf season


RAVENSWOOD – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat golf team is off to a solid start to their season with a pair of impressive outings.

They are coming off of a third-place finish in the eight-team Mister Bee Invitational at the Green Hills Golf Club in Ravenswood this past weekend.

They shot a two-day total of 699, firing a 355 on day one and a 344 on day two.

Charleston won the event with a 668 while Ohio Valley was second with a 691.

Wesleyan’s Kiana Toole turned in a pair of 82s to finish second overall with a 164, just two shots off the lead.

Kailey Pettit from West Liberty won the event with a 162 while Charleston’s Beatrice Dietz and Ohio Valley’s Jewel Goins both tied for third with a 165.

WVWC’s Sumire Ebioka finished 10th with a 172 while Carleigh Bolyard was 17th with a 178, Beverly Toothman was 24th with a 185 and Emma Bryan was 32nd with a 204.

Last week, the Lady ‘Cats opened their campaign at the two-day Greenbrier Women’s Collegiate Invitational at The Meadows Golf Course in White Sulphur Springs.

Wesleyan finished third out of eight teams with a 671, with a 334 on day one and a 337 on day two.

Lynchburg won the event with a 622 while Southern Virginia was second with a 655.

Toole was the top finisher there too for Wesleyan taking third place with a 155.

Ebiokia took sixth with a 160 while Toothman was 21st with a 178, Bolyard was 24th with a 180 and Bryan was 30th with a 194.

Emily Brubaker from Lynchburg won the individual title with a 143 while Concord’s Melinda Goda was second with a 148.

Wesleyan will compete again Friday at the Glenville State Invitational at the Glenville Country Club and then wrap up their season at the MEC Championships at Warren, Ohio starting next Tuesday.
