Lady Bobcat tennis team ends year with win at D&E

ELKINS _ The West Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team wrapped up their season Tuesday on a high note defeating the Davis & Elkins Senators by a 5-2 score on the back of solid singles play.

After D&E took the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 2, WVWC needed a strong response to end the season victorious.

Taylour Newman defeated Sai Sakamoto (6-0, 6-1) at singles No. 1, but that was where the scoring stopped for D&E.

Rebecca Osborne got the scoring started for the Lady 'Cats with an impressive victory at No. 3.

Osborne defeated her opponent in straight sets, winning (6-2, 6-0) to make the score 2-1.

Hannah Spruce had a dominant victory at No. 6, where she did not drop a single game. Spruce finished the match, winning (6-0, 6-0) and tying the score at two.

Julia Pinto had a massive three-set victory at No. 2. Pinto won the first set convincingly 6-1.

After falling in the second set 6-3, Pinto showed gutsy performance in the final set, winning 6-3 and giving WVWC the lead.

Molly Hull clinched the match for WVWC with a (6-0, 6-1) finish at No. 5.

After the match was secured for the Lady Bobcats, Madison Chen iced the cake, winning (7-6 (3), 7-5) to round out the scoring.
