BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team captured a thrilling 4-3 win over Shaw University here Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Lady Bobcat senior Mariona Junyer rallied from being 5-2 down in the final set to win her No. 3 singles match 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (6), snapping a streak of nine consecutive losses to the Bears.
Shaw is the defending champion in the CIAA conference and went to the NCAA tournament last year.
Cecilia Martinez and Julia Yanes also recorded singles points for the Lady 'Cats, who took the early 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point.
For the second straight match, Yanes clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at the four spot.
Wesleyan (11-8, 5-2 MEC), winners of six of their last seven, will wrap-up the Mountain East Conference portion of their schedule on the road against Concord Friday at 3:30 p.m.
They will face Davis & Elkins in non-conference play Monday in Elkins starting at 4 p.m.
