Lady Bobcat lacrosse team tumbles to Maryville, 18-5


BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat lacrosse team couldn’t get their offense going in the first half in an 18-5 setback to Maryville (Mo.) Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference outing at Cebe Ross Field.

Wesleyan managed just one-first half goal as they fell behind by a 15-1 score at the intermission.

Maryville raced out to a 7-0 advantage after 13 minutes of action before Madeline Gorzka put Wesleyan on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at the 16:44 mark.

Maryville scored eight unanswered goals for their 15-1 lead at the intermission.

Lauren Bolen started the second half for Wesleyan with an unassisted goal two minutes in to make it a 15-2 game.

Following a pair of Maryville goals, Victoria Sisson scored a goal for Wesleyan at the 15:29 mark making it a 17-3 game.

Maryville scored at the 10-minute mark but Wesleyan ended the game with a pair of goals from Gorzka and Lovely Lopez to wrap up the scoring.

Gorzka led the offense with two goals.

Claire Martin led Maryville with four goals.

The loss dropped Wesleyan to 0-4 on the season.

They ended their season with the Maryville game after Wesleyan announced that the athletic spring campaigns are being suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
