Lady Bobcat golfers picked sixth in MEC preseason coaches poll


BRIDGEPORT — The University of Charleston has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the Mountain East Conference women's golf championship.

The Golden Eagles finished atop the poll with 64 points, including eight first-place votes. Charleston has won each of the last two conference titles and returns its top two scorers from the conference tournament in 2019. 

Notre Dame was second in the poll with 51 points (one first-place vote), followed closely by Wheeling with 50 points. Charleston, Notre Dame and Wheeling are the only three programs to win women's golf titles in the history of the MEC.

Fairmont State was picked fourth with 36 points, followed by Davis & Elkins (31), West Virginia Wesleyan (30) and Glenville State (27). Concord (25) and West Liberty (10) rounded out the poll.
