Lacrosse Lady Bucs split games with University and Capital

Hannah Walton (17) of the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc lacrosse team moves upfield on an attack during their outing Saturday with Capital in Charleston. Walton had five goals as the Lady Bucs crushed Capital by a 23-4 score. They improved their record to 4-1 on the season.

MORGANTOWN – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc lacrosse team split a pair of recent games on the road.

Last Wednesday in Morgantown, they lost a 7-6 verdict to University but came back to win a 23-4 rout over Capital Saturday evening.

The action left head coach Jamie Greene’s squad with a 4-1 record.

Against University, the Lady Bucs trailed at the half by a 6-4 margin. They won the second half by a 2-1 score but couldn’t overtake the Hawks for the win.

Miranda Greene had four of the six goals for the Lady Bucs while Kendall Defibaugh and Hannah Walton each had one.

“It doesn’t show us winning on the scoreboard, but we won the game on the field,” remarked Greene. “There were just a couple of calls that didn’t go our way and a couple of mistakes on our side. Take those away and we win the game, but I’m very proud of the girls and how they came out and played hard for 50 minutes. This game was to see where we are at as a team and I liked what I saw.”

Kiki Arbogast led the team with seven draw controls while Gaidian Adams led the defense with six ground balls and two caused turnovers.

“Mashae Bowser, Destiny Chidester and Aneysia Halseth did a great job on defense and locked down University to just one goal in the second half,” stated Greene.

Leah Crihfield made 10 saves in net for the Lady Bucs.

Saturday’s game with Capital was never in doubt as the Lady Bucs raced out to a 15-3 lead and cruised in the second half, winning it 8-1 for the 23-4 victory.

Defibaugh had a game-high six goals while Greene and Walton each had five, Emileigh Ryan tallied four and Arbogast, Kaylee O’Connor and Kaylie Reed each had one.

“This was another good game where we could get a lot of our girls into the game,” noted Greene.

Arbogast collected 11 draw control wins while Bowser and Adams each had five ground balls.

Leah Crihfield started in net and made two saves and gave way to Haylea Crihfield who also made two saves for the Lady Bucs.

The Lady Bucs will stay on the road today and visit Fairmont Senior for an 8 p.m. start.

They will make the trip to George Washington on Friday with an 8 p.m. start.
