Lacrosse Lady Bucs rack up two more wins after beating John Marshall and Capital

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Miranda Greene (11) tallied nine goals in a 19-1 victory over Capital last Saturday.

TENNERTON – Coming off their big road win over Morgantown last week, the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc lacrosse team was excited to finally return home after a seven-game road trip last Saturday in a doubleheader with John Marshall and Capital at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.

The Lady Bucs were dominate over their two opponents winning both games by a combined 36-2 score as they downed John Marshall by a 17-1 count first and beat Capital later that day by a 19-1 score.

The two wins left head coach Jamie Greene’s team with a 7-3 record.

In the win over John Marshall, the Lady Bucs raced out to a 10-0 lead at the half and cruised to the 17-1 win.

Miranda Greene and Emileigh Ryan each had four goals to pace the offense while Hannah Walton tallied three goals and Gaidian Adams and Reese Hutson each had two and Kendall Defibaugh and Paula Vaughn each had one.

“After getting the win at Morgantown, our team was ready to come out and play on Saturday,” noted Greene. “The offense moved the ball very well and that gave us a chance to work on some things.”

Ashleigh Damon led the defense with six ground balls while Mashae Bowser had five ground balls.

Walton handed the draws with 13 draw controls.

Without a junior varsity schedule and a limited number of players, Greene can use games like this to get his entire roster into the game.

“These games give us a chance to get all the girls some playing time,” stated Greene.

Buckhannon-Upshur was equally as dominate against Capital taking a 10-1 halftime lead en route to their 19-1 victory.

Greene was a workhorse up front with nine goals while Defibaugh had three, Ryan and Walton two each and Adams, Heather Hayes and Jesse Sandberg one each.

“Playing back-to-back games, we didn’t have a letdown and that is what you want to see as a coach,” remarked Greene. “Our defense played really well. Bowser once again locked down Capital with five ground balls while Damon, Taylor Rice, Aneysia Halseth and Abby Kelley keeping Capital’s offense in check the whole game. Walton had another good game taking the draws along with Defibaugh.”

The Lady Bucs were slated to host George Washington on Wednesday and St. Albans on Thursday.

They will host Wheeling Park today at 1 p.m.
