Lack of subs forces remote learning

BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon-Upshur Middle and High Schools had to resume fully remote learning this week, due to a lack of substitute teachers. However, staff will still report and operate as usual in all schools for the week.

Elementary schools will continue to operate in their regularly scheduled blended model, but families were also given the option for these younger students to go fully remote as well. Upshur County’s elementary schools just ask families to please contact them if their students choose to remain home this week.

Upshur County Schools have recently endured outbreaks over the past three weeks, while Monday’s County Alert Map and the WVDE Saturday Education Map showed Upshur County to be in the “Yellow.” Currently, there are six active cases in the elementary schools, one within the transportation department, and one within the administrative department. These cases bring the school-related total to 47 positive confirmed cases, as of Monday evening. Additionally, 46 individuals remain under current quarantine orders.
