TENNERTON — After collecting their first win of the season Tuesday, March 22 against Preston County, the Buckhannon-Upshur High School Softball Team (1-3) was back in action, welcoming the North Marion Huskies to Tennerton on Thursday, March 24.

Jansen Kimble got the start, on the mound, for Head Coach Levi Bender, pitching a complete game shutout to lead the Lady Buccaneers past North Marion 11-0. Kimble faced 20 Husky batters, retiring 7 of them with strikeouts. Out of 66 total pitches, Kimble tossed an impressive 50 strikes. The young right-hander did not surrender a single run, only allowing five total hits, while refusing to walk a single Husky batter.

Offensively, the bat of Alyssa Abel helped carry the day for the Lady Bucs. Abel went 2-for-3 at the plate, while driving in 5 runs. Abel wasted no time making her impact on this game, hitting a grand slam on her first time up to bat in the first inning, following that up by recording another RBI after she belted a single in the second inning. Robin Ball was also an impact player on offense, finishing 2-3, scoring two runs and recording 2 RBIs. Ball hit a solo homer in the first inning for the game’s first score. These two accounted for both of the Lady Buc home runs on the evening. The trio of Abel, Ball and Shelby McDaniels combined for 6 of the team’s 9 total hits.

With the win, the Lady Bucs move to 2-3 on the young season. The team will resume play on Monday, March 28 as they hit the road to take on the Grafton Bearcats. The first-pitch is slated to be thrown out at 5 p.m.
