Kelley has four goals as Lady Bucs roll past North Marion, 7-0

RACHEL – Lexi Kelley put in four goals and Catherine Oliveto had two goals and three assists as the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs rolled to a 7-0 road victory Thursday night against the North Marion Huskies.

The Lady Bucs did almost all of their damage in the first half with six goals before pulling back and scoring just one in the second half.

“The girls had a nice game,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jackie Zuliani. “We moved and possessed the ball very well. We covered and held our shape better on defense. Overall a much better job and we played together and had fun.”

Maggie Queen played a pass from the center to the right side of the field to Oliveto who found the back of the net in just the fourth minute to give B-U a 1-0 lead.

Oliveto struck again just four minutes later cleaning up a deflection by the North Marion keeper and scoring giving the Lady Bucs a 2-0 advantage.

Kelley scored the first of her four goals sending back a deflection in the 13th minute to up the B-U lead to 3-0.

Cameron Zuliani got into the scoring act in the 19th minute after playing a cross from Oliveto making it a 4-0 contest.

Kelley finished the first-half scoring with a pair of goals in a two-minute span.

The first goal was a header on a cross from Oliveto in the 20th minute and the second goal, she ran onto a punt from Kyndal Davis and scored in the 22nd minute making it 6-0.

The lone goal of the second half belonged to Kelley in the 58th minute, who played a cross from Oliveto and finished with the score.

“Kelley is like the energizer bunny, she doesn’t stop,” remarked Zuliani. “She is all over the place and that causes havoc for the opposing defense. She had four goals, but could have had more if we hadn’t rested our starters and let some of our younger girls get some valuable varsity time. Queen also had a great game and did a great job of controlling the game. She could have had a few goals of her own, but she was unselfish and looked to pass and get her teammates involved.”

The Lady Bucs owned a 17-6 margin in shots-on-goal and a 3-0 lead in corner kicks.

Buckhannon-Upshur improved to 3-1 on the season.

They are scheduled to play Williamstown today at 11 a.m. and will host Grafton Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
