Kanawha County man arrested following solicitation of minor

BUCKHANNON — A Kanawha County man has been arrested in Upshur County after officers from the Buckhannon Police Department (BPD) were able to intercept a pre-planned meeting with an underage female. Brandon Scott Shawver, age 23 of Charleston, was arrested on Thursday, May 26 and is now facing charges of Solicitation of a Minor via Computer.

According to the criminal complaint, BPD officers intercepted a meeting between the defendant and a 14-year-old female. Shawver allegedly drove from his residence in Charleston, W.Va. to Buckhannon, W.Va. to an undisclosed location to engage in sexual activities with a female he knew to be underage.

Upon the defendant’s arrival to the undisclosed location, he was apprehended. Shawver allegedly had condoms in his pocket, which had been discussed in previous messages between himself and the minor. Shawver was read his Miranda Rights and signed a waiver admitting that he came to Buckhannon, knowing that the minor was 14-years-old, to engage in sexual intercourse.

Shawver is currently being held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $75,000 cash bond.
