JV Little Buc cagers lose by one to Elkins but comes back to knock off Taylor County, 39-19

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School junior varsity Little Bucs split a pair of game with Elkins and Taylor County.

The Little Bucs lost a 20-19 home decision to Elkins but rebounded to dominate Taylor County on the road by a 39-19 score.

The split left the Little Bucs with a 4-3 record.

The Little Bucs lost the Elkins game at the free throw line.

In the one-point setback, they were just one of eight from the free throw line.

The Little Bucs managed just one point in the first quarter, a free throw by Carter Zuliani as they trailed by a 5-1 margin.

The Little Bucs turned up the offense in the second quarter winning it by a 12-3 margin.

Jerin Westfall poured in two three-pointers and Eli Boggs, Colin Bailey and Landon Marple each dropped in a basket for the Little Bucs.

Buckhannon-Upshur led at the half by a 13-8 margin.

A Jerin Westfall three-pointer was the lone offense for the Little Bucs in the third quarter as they dropped the canto by a 4-3 margin.

They still led going into the fourth quarter by a 16-12 score.

They lost the last quarter by an 8-3 margin as another Jerin Westfall trey was the only scoring for the Little Bucs.

Jerin Westfall led the Little Bucs with 12 points.

Aidan Westfall paced Elkins with 10 points.

The Little Bucs put away Taylor County early taking the first quarter by a 16-6 margin.

Jerin Westfall had eight points while Zuliani and Barton added four apiece in the opening quarter for the Little Bucs.

The Little Bucs shutout Taylor County in the second quarter by a 6-0 score with Zuliani pouring in all six points.

They led by a 22-6 margin at the intermission.

With Zuliani putting in nine points, Drahden Rice a trey and Barton a two-pointer, the Little Bucs won the third stanza by a 14-4 margin.

That put them up by a 36-10 score going into the final quarter.

The Little Bucs dropped the last quarter by a 9-3 score with Colin Bailey scoring all three points.

Zuliani led the Little Bucs with a game-high 19 points.

Mason Markley led Taylor County with four points.

The Little Bucs will play again today at Mountaineer (Morgantown) at 6 p.m.
