JV Little Buc cagers fall by eight to Lincoln, 41-33

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Buccaneers took a 28-23 lead into the fourth quarter against Lincoln’s Wildcats in their junior varsity clash here last Thursday night, but faltered and fell by a 41-33 count.

They grabbed an 8-5 first-quarter lead on two buckets by Jaden Westfall, and one apiece by Luke Yardley and Ian Strader.

Bryson Johnston, Westfall and Michael Farrar each canned a goal in the second period, which went to Lincoln by a 7-6 edge, leaving the Little Bucs with a 14-12 halftime advantage.

The Little Bucs claimed the third stanza by a 14-13 count, with Jonas Barton tallying four markers, Westfall and Yardley banging in three each, and Johnston and Farrar adding two apiece.

The Wildcats erupted on a 14-5 spree in the final six minutes.

Westfall finished with 11 points. Rounding out the scoring were Johnston with six points, Yardley with five, Barton and Farrar each with four, and Strader with three.

The Little Bucs fell to 3-7 going into Monday night’s contest with visiting Washington Irving. They will entertain Taylor County tonight.
