JV Lady Bucs take early lead but fall to Indians, 43-26


BRIDGEPORT – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs couldn’t make a first-quarter lead hold up in a 43-26 setback to the Bridgeport Indians Friday night.

The Lady Bucs took a 10-8 lead after one quarter with Miah Reger unleashing a three-pointer, Rosie Shackleford putting in a basket and a free throw, and Kyndal Davis and Hana Kashima each knocking down a basket for the two-point lead.

The Lady Bucs managed just one field goal in the second though by Regina Petrokovich and trailed at the half by a 19-12 margin.

Buckhannon-Upshur lost the third quarter by a 13-6 margin.

Shackleford and Kashima each dropped in a basket while McKinley Bonnett and Oliva Ellis each added a free throw for the Lady Bucs in the third quarter.

Davis poured in five points and Ellis two, and Shackleford one for B-U in the fourth quarter, that went to Bridgeport by an 11-8 count.

Davis led B-U in scoring with seven points while Shackleford had six.

Alexis Bombardiere scored a game-high 14 points for Bridgeport.

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 0-6 on the season.

They will return to the court today hosting Lewis County at 5:45 p.m.
