JV Lady Bucs split outings with Liberty, Morgantown

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs split a pair of home games Monday and Tuesday.

On Tuesday, they easily defeated Liberty by a 38-10 score, but a day earlier on Monday, they dropped a 48-22 decision to Morgantown.

The split left the Lady Bucs with a 4-5 record.

In Tuesday’s game with Liberty, the Lady Bucs raced out to a 10-2 lead after one quarter.

Lexi Kelley and Kiara Woods each had four points while Justice Courtney added two in the first quarter.

The Lady Bucs blanked Liberty in the second quarter by a 9-0 margin.

Scoring for the Lady Bucs in the second quarter were Courtney with four, Ellie Greenough and Claire Coffman with two each and Leah Moore with one.

That gave the Lady Bucs a 19-2 lead in the half.

With Alayna Nesbitt scoring five points and Greenough, Courtney and Moore each scoring two, the Lady Bucs won the third quarter by an 11-4 margin.

That kept the Lady Bucs ahead by 24 points, at 30-6, heading into the final quarter.

Olivia Ellis hit a trey, Robin Ball scored three points and Nesbitt two for Buckhannon-Upshur in the final quarter that they won by an 8-4 margin.

Courtney led the Lady Buc offense with eight points while Nesbitt put in seven.

Erin Curran paced Liberty with four points.

In Monday’s action against Morgantown, the Lady Bucs were doubled up by a 12-6 margin.

Kelley had four points and Woods two for the Lady Bucs in the first quarter.

Nesbitt put in a three-pointer and Moore a free throw for the only B-U offense in the second quarter.

They lost the second quarter by an 11-4 margin and trailed at the half by 13, at 23-10.

Ellis nailed a trey and Courtney, Amaia Ramirez, and Coffman each flipped in a free throw for six third quarter points.

They lost the quarter by a 13-6 margin and trailed heading into the fourth quarter by a 36-16 score.

B-U managed just six points in the final quarter which went to Morgantown by a 12-6 score.

Courtney had four points and Greenough two for the Lady Bucs in the final period.

Courtney led the B-U offense with five points.

Makayla Chipps and Tori McDowell each had 10 points to lead Morgantown.

The Lady Bucs will return to action today when they visit Fairmont Senior at 5:45 p.m.
