JV Lady Bucs lose to Preston after three-week hiatus

TENNERTON – Playing for the first time in three weeks due to a pair of COVID-19 protocol shutdowns, the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs struggled, as one can imagine, in their return game Wednesday evening in a home battle with the Preston Knights.

In just the second game of the season, the Lady Bucs dropped a 38-14 decision to the Knights.

Baskets by Regina Petrovich and Kyndal Davis were the only offense B-U mustered in the first quarter as they trailed, 17-4.

It got worse for the Lady Bucs in the second quarter as a free throw by a Callie Lantz was it as they fell behind by a 22-5 score at the break.

Rosie Shackleford made two baskets and Lantz uncorked a three-pointer for the Lady Bucs’ seven-point third quarter.

They trailed after three by a 30-12 margin.

The Lady Bucs managed just one basket in the fourth quarter, a jumper by Miah Reger.

Lantz and Shackleford led the Lady Bucs in scoring with four points apiece.

Ella White led Preston with nine points while Dalaynie Myers added eight.

The loss dropped B-U to 0-2 on the season heading into Friday night’s home game with University.

They will return to action Monday visiting Morgantown for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
