JV Lady Bucs lose 42-35 decision to University

MORGANTOWN – A poor second quarter doomed the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs in a 42-35 road contest to the University Hawks Tuesday evening.

The Lady Bucs won three of the four quarters but were outscored by a 22-5 margin in the second quarter setting up their seven-point setback.

The Lady Bucs jumped into an 8-4 lead after one quarter with Alayna Nesbitt scoring four points and Lexi Kelley and McKinley Bonnett two each.

In that second quarter, the only offense the Lady Bucs received was a three-pointer from Nesbitt and two free throws by Justice Courtney.

The Lady Bucs trailed at the intermission by a 26-13 score.

They rebounded to win the third quarter by a 9-7 margin.

Leah Moore had seven of the nine points while Courtney added two points for the Lady Bucs in the third quarter.

They still trailed by a 33-22 score heading into the final stanza.

Buckhannon-Upshur won the fourth quarter by a 13-9 margin but still came up short overall.

Moore had eight points while Nesbitt tossed in a trey and Bonnett added two free throws.

Moore paced the offense with a game-high 15 points while Nesbitt added 10.

Madison McClung led University with 14 points.

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 7-7.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action today when they host Philip Barbour at 5:45 p.m.
