JV Lady Bucs fall to Parkersburg South, 34-33

PARKERSBURG – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs lost a heartbreaking verdict in their season finale on the road to Parkersburg South Monday evening.

The Lady Bucs dropped a 34-33 decision.

In a slow-moving first quarter, the Lady Bucs fell behind by a 5-3 score as they failed to make a field goal.

They got three free throws in the quarter, two from Kiara Woods and one from Olivia Ellis.

Things picked up in the second quarter, which went to the Lady Bucs by a 12-10 score.

Woods unleashed a three-pointer, Alayna Nesbitt made three free throws and Leah Moore and Amaia Ramirez each had a basket as the Lady Bucs trailed by a 17-13 score at the break.

The Lady Bucs were edged in the third quarter by a 10-9 margin with Leah Moore putting in four points, Nesbitt uncorking a trey, and Robin Ball adding a basket.

Buckhannon-Upshur trailed by a 27-22 score heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bucs won the fourth quarter by an 11-7 margin, but it wasn’t enough for the win.

Moore had seven points, all from the free throw line, while Nesbitt had a basket and Ellis and Claire Coffman each added a free throw during the final quarter.

Moore led the Lady Bucs with 13 points while Nesbitt added eight.

Ashleigh Utt, Brooke Sandy, and Abbey Smith each had eight points for Parkersburg South.

The Lady Bucs ended their season with a 10-10 record.
