JV Lady Bucs down Spring Mills, 35-30


SPRING MILLS – In a game that featured 55 fouls, the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs earned their first win of the season defeating Spring Mills on the road by a 35-30 score.

The Lady Bucs used a dominating fourth quarter for the win, outscoring Spring Mills in the final stanza by an 18-1 score.

They trailed going into the fourth quarter by a 29-17 score.

The Lady Bucs fell behind early by a 10-4 margin in the opening quarter.

McKinley Bonnett had a basket and Olivia Ellis and Catherine Neely each had a free throw for the Lady Bucs in the opening stanza.

The Lady Bucs had seven points, all at the free throw line in the second quarter.

Lexi Kelley had four points, Justice Courtney two and Brooklyn Bryant one, but the Lady Bucs lost the quarter by a 12-7 margin.

B-U trailed at the half by a 22-11 margin.

Spring Mills won the third quarter by a 7-6 margin.

Bryant, Kiara Woods and Amaia Ramirez each had a basket for the Lady Bucs during the third quarter.

With Woods scoring seven points, Kelley four, Bonnett three, Courtney and Neely two each, the Lady Bucs won the final quarter by that 18-1 margin for the five-point win.

Woods led the Lady Bucs with nine points while Kelley had eight.

The win improved the Lady Bucs to 1-3 on the season.

They will return to action this Saturday when they visit Lincoln for a 2 p.m. tip.
