JV Bucs stay perfect with 79-39 victory over Minutemen

WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Bucs had little trouble putting away the Lewis County Minutemen Monday night in a road contest at Lewis County High School.

The Bucs defeated the Minutemen by 40 points in a 79-39 victory.

The win kept the Bucs perfect on the season as they improved to 7-0.

The Bucs had a quick start to the game scoring 21 points in the first quarter.

Mason Hyre had nine points while Sterlin Thropp tacked on six, Harrison Walker added four and Noam Keith two as the Bucs grabbed a 21-8 lead.

With Lamar Hurst and Walker each scoring five points and Euan Kettle scoring four and Thropp two, the Bucs took the second quarter by a 16-9 margin.

They led at the break by 20, at 37-17.

Buckhannon-Upshur dominated the third quarter taking it by a 22-8 score.

Josh Loudin blew up in the quarter with 11 points while Hyre scored four, Thropp three and Oliver King and Keith two each.

That treated the Bucs to a 59-25 advantage going into the final quarter.

The Buc claimed the fourth quarter, 20-14.

Zach Calef-Boring had nine points while Thropp, King, Felipe Montero, Shelton Thropp and Kettle each had two points in the last quarter.

Sterlin Thropp and Hyre led the Bucs with 13 points while Loudin scored 11 in just one quarter of action.

Tyler Heater paced Lewis County with 11 points.

The Bucs were slated to play North Marion Wednesday evening.

They will be back in action Friday hosting Grafton at 5:45 p.m.
