JV Bucs stay perfect with 77-54 win over Preston

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers continue to shine as they cruised past the Preston Knights by a 77-54 score Friday night at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The win kept them perfect on the year at 3-0.

The Bucs took early control of the game and never looked back as they took the first quarter by a 27-11 score.

Mason Hyre and Harrison Walker had the hot hands for the Bucs in the opening quarter as Hyre scored 10 points and Walker nine.

Noam Keith and Josh Loudin each added four points as well in the first quarter of the Bucs.

Things slowed down in the second quarter which went to the Bucs by a 12-11 margin.

Walker had nine of the 12 points while Zach Calef-Boring scored the other three in the second quarter.

The Bucs owned a 39-22 lead at the break.

B-U picked up the offense again in the third quarter with 27 points.

Loudin poured in 10 while Calef-Boring had nine, Hyre four, and Euan Kettle and Oliver King two each to account for the third-quarter scoring.

That kept the Bucs ahead by 31, at 66-35, heading into the final quarter.

Preston won the final frame by a 19-11 margin.

For the Bucs in the fourth quarter, Calef-Boring scored four points, Sheldon Thropp three, Felepe Montero and Cody Bailey two each.

Walker scored a game-high 18 points, all in the first half, to lead the Bucs in scoring.

Calef-Boring added 16 points while Hyre tacked on 14.

Preston was led by Gabe Snyder who scored 16.

The Bucs will return to action Friday in the Brooke Holiday Tournament.
