JV Bucs return to the win column after downing Elkins, 56-50

ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers ended a three-game losing streak with a 56-50 victory over the homestanding Elkins Tigers Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers took an 18-11 lead after one quarter and held on for the six-point win.

Noam Keith went off for 11 points for B-U in the first period while Oliver King and Euan Kettle each added three and Sterlin Thropp one.

The two teams played to an even 12-12 canto in the second.

Mason Hyre had seven points while Thropp added five for the Bucs in the quarter.

They led at the half by a 30-23 score.

The Bucs dropped the third quarter by a 14-9 margin with Harrison Walker scoring six points, Zach Calef-Boring two and Thropp one.

Buckhannon-Upshur still led by a 39-37 score heading into the final quarter.

The Bucs sealed away the win taking the fourth quarter by a 17-13 score.

Thropp had seven points while Calef-Boring and Felipe Montero each had four and King two for the Bucs in the final period.

Thropp led the Bucs with 14 points while Keith collected 11 points.

Cory Harper had 13 to lead the Tigers.

The Bucs improved to 14-3 on the season and will return to action Monday when they host Musselman for a 5:45 p.m. contest.
