JV Bucs go to 4-0 with 38-35 win over Meadville

WELLSBURG – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Bucs remained perfect on the season with a hard-fought 38-35 victory over the Meadville (Pa.) Bulldogs Friday night during a game in the Brooke Holiday Tournament.

The win improved the junior varsity Bucs to 4-0 on the season.

The Bucs doubled up the Bulldogs by a 10-5 score in the first quarter with Noam Keith getting four points, Sterlin Thropp, Harrison Walker and Lamar Hurst two each.

The Bucs lost the second quarter by a 9-7 score but still led at the break by three, at 17-14.

Hurst tallied six of the seven points while Zach Calef-Boring added a free throw.

The third quarter was all even at 12-12 as the Bucs took a 29-26 lead into the fourth quarter.

Walker and Keith each had five points while Josh Loudin added a basket for the Bucs in the third canto.

With Walker scoring six points, Thropp two and Calef-Boring one, the Bucs and Bulldogs battled to an even 9-9 fourth quarter as the Bucs held on for the three-point win.

Walker paced the Buckhannon-Upshur offense with 13 points while Keith added nine and Hurst eight.

Savior Hughes and Julian Jones each had six points for Meadville.

The Bucs were slated to play Brooke in the second day of the Holiday Tournament on Saturday.

They will return to the court Friday at Riverside for a 5:45 p.m. tip.
