JV Buccaneers drop opener to Lincoln, 67-30


SHINNSTON – It was a rough start to the season for the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers Saturday evening as they dropped a 67-30 decision to the Lincoln Cougars.

Things went well enough for the Bucs in the first quarter as they trailed by just a 15-12 margin.

Five different players got into the scoring act for the Bucs in that first quarter as Wilbur Snider scored four points and Zach Calef-Boring, Oliver King, Shelton Thropp, and Shawn Blandino each made a basket.

Things came a part for the Bucs in the second quarter after they were outscored by a 17-5 margin making just two field goals – one each by King and Thropp.

The Bucs trailed by a 32-17 margin at the intermission.

The Bucs dropped the third quarter by a 17-9 score.

Calef-Boring dropped in six points and Blandino three during the frame as the Bucs trailed 49-26 going into the final quarter.

Buckhannon-Upshur produced just one field goal in the fourth quarter, a basket by Blandino and two free threes, one by Blandino and the other by Ryan Snyder.

Calef-Boring and Blandino led the Bucs in scoring with eight points apiece.

Buckhannon-Upshur will return to action today traveling to Preston for a 5:45 p.m. start.
