Junior varsity Lady Bucs fall to John Marshall, 32-24

TENNERTON – A one-point first quarter spelled doom for the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs in their home encounter Saturday afternoon against the visiting John Marshall Monarchs.

The Lady Bucs fell behind by a 9-1 score after one period of play, but battled John Marshall on even terms the rest of the way in a 32-24 setback.

A free throw by Justice Courtney was the only point of the first quarter for the Lady Bucs.

The Lady Bucs came back to win the second quarter by an 11-8 margin.

Kiara Woods scored four points, Alayna Nesbitt three and Olivia Ellis and Leah Moore two each as the Lady Bucs trailed heading into the break by five, at 17-12.

Ellis, Nesbitt and Robin Ball each scored a basket for Buckhannon-Upshur in the third quarter, but the frame went to John Marshall by a 7-6 score.

John Marshall won the last quarter by an 8-6 margin.

Kennedy Samargo led the way with four points while Woods had two in that quarter.

Woods paced the Lady Bucs in scoring with six points while Nesbitt had five and Samargo and Ellis each had four apiece.

Lauren Tekely led John Marshall with eight.

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 4-6 on the season.

They will return to action Friday when they visit Elkins at 5:45 p.m.
