Junior varsity Lady Bucs fall in debut to Preston, 29-24

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc junior varsity squad tipped off their 2018-19 campaign here Monday evening against the Preston Knights.

The Lady Bucs dropped a 29-24 decision.

The first-quarter saw the two teams combine for just three field goals.

The lone Lady Buc basket belonged to Alayna Nesbitt who unleashed a 3-pointer.

Kennedy Samargo knocked down a free throw for the other point in the first quarter as the Lady Bucs trailed after one,quarter, at 5-4.

With Samargo chipping in six points and Brooklyn Bryant adding a free throw, the Lady Bucs outscored Preston in the second quarter by a 7-5 margin to take an 11-10 lead at the break.

Kiara Woods tallied four points and Samargo two in the third quarter, but the frame went to Preston by an 11-6 score as they took a 21-17 lead into the fourth quarter.

B-U tied the game at 24-24, but Preston scored the final five points of the game.

Woods had four points, Rachel Long two and Melton one in the quarter.

Samargo led the Lady Bucs with nine points while Woods chipped in eight.

Izzy Stahl paced Preston with eight points.

The Lady Bucs will return to the court Thursday when they entertain the Lincoln Cougars at 5:45 p.m.
